What's the Difference Between Projects and Conversations?

This is one of the most common points of confusion in ngram AI Studio. Projects and Conversations are two different views of the same underlying video -- here's how they differ.

What Is a Project?

A project is your finished video and all its assets. When you open a project, you see the video editor where you can:

  • Play back the video

  • Edit the timeline

  • Add text, elements, or effects

  • Download and export

Projects page

Projects appear as cards with thumbnails on the Projects page. Each card shows the video's name and when it was last updated.

What Is a Conversation?

A conversation is the AI chat session that created your video. When you open a conversation, you see the full chat history including:

  • Your original prompt

  • The AI's research and thinking steps

  • The generated script

  • The storyboard with all scenes

  • Any follow-up messages and changes you requested

  • The final video preview

Conversations appear in a list when you click the Home icon, with the most recent at the top.

The Key Relationship

One conversation creates one project. They're two sides of the same coin:

  • The conversation is the process (how the video was made)

  • The project is the result (the video itself)

When you want to make AI-powered changes (regenerate scenes, change the script, adjust the style), go to the conversation and type your requests in the chat.

When you want to make manual edits (trim timing, add text overlays, adjust audio), go to the project and use the video editor.

When to Use Each

Go to Conversations When You Want To:

  • Ask the AI to rewrite the script

  • Regenerate specific scene images

  • Change the voiceover voice

  • Add or remove scenes through the AI

  • See what prompt and settings were used to create a video

Go to Projects When You Want To:

  • Open the video editor

  • Adjust scene timing on the timeline

  • Add text, elements, or effects manually

  • Download or export the video

  • See a quick thumbnail overview of all your videos

How to Navigate Between Them
